The Victorian era, spanning the reign of Queen Victoria, represents one of the most visually rich and technically complex periods in the history of dress. Bodices were often tightly fitted and richly adorned, with high necklines and long sleeves reflecting the moral codes of the time. The techniques used in the creation of Victorian garments demanded a high level of skill and precision. While the Industrial Revolution introduced sewing machines and standardized production, high-quality garments—particularly those intended for formal occasions—remained deeply rooted in handcraft. Tailoring, pattern drafting, and finishing required not only technical mastery but also an understanding of how structure and decoration interact to create a cohesive whole.
